About Us

In November 2021, Cove Church launched Cove Shelter after recognizing the urgent need for emergency housing in Transylvania County.

Cove Shelter is a faith-based emergency facility dedicated to treating others as Jesus Christ would—meeting physical needs while sharing His love. From November 1 through March 31, we open our doors to provide overnight accommodations for up to 20 guests. Each evening, guests receive a hot meal, a safe place to sleep, access to showers, laundry facilities, and a clothes closet.

Though this has been a significant undertaking, we’ve been blessed with generous volunteers and donations that make it possible. Cove Shelter is a small, independent organization doing very big things—and we believe this is exactly what God has called us to do.

Keagan Monteith

Keagan Monteith, former Firefighter/EMT and Logistics Officer with the Asheville Fire Department, now serves as Director of Cove Shelter. Deeply rooted in the Brevard community, he is passionate about leading the shelter’s faith-based mission while continuing part-time service in fire and public safety. In addition to his role at Cove Shelter, Keagan serves as an elder at Cove Church and a Level II CrossFit coach at Reunited CrossFit. Above all, he values his role as husband to Sarah, stepfather to Julianna, and father to Joseph.

About our Board

Cove Shelter is a non-profit, faith-based organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of community members from the Brevard, North Carolina area. Board members come from the professional, business, and ministerial community and bring a wide range of skills and experience to Cove Shelter. The Board of Directors are committed to Cove Shelter’s mission and vision and fulfills its responsibility by setting direction and policy for the organization and advocating on behalf of the people we serve.

In addition to our Board of Directors, Cove Shelter is supported by a group of dedicated Community Advisors—Steve Simon, Cary Hitchcock, Mike Abney, Terry McNabb, and David Cady. Each brings unique experience and perspective to the ongoing maintenance and development of the shelter. From offering practical guidance to lending hands-on support, these advisors play a vital role in ensuring our facility remains safe, welcoming, and effective in serving those in need. Their commitment strengthens our mission by helping us steward resources wisely, improve operations, and build a sustainable foundation for the future of Cove Shelter.
